WELLNESS CARE

As chiropractors with a focus on wellness, it is important to shift our attention from treating symptoms to preventing them all together. When we look at the statistics, over time our life expectancy continues to increase, as it should. 


As we age, most of us neglect our structural system because we are unable to see it until we receive imaging like x-rays or MRI.  Evidence reveals that the most common cause of functional disability in people over 50 is a spinal related disorder.  The average person is more likely to experience back pain throughout life & it is important to disband common thought like "No pain, no gain" or "toughing it out" because problems will more than likely surface as age progresses.

 

REASONS NOT TO WAIT

Most people wait until they are in pain to see a chiropractor.  Or they continue to live with it until it's just unbearable.  Let's compare this approach with your car.  If on the way to work one day your hear something out of the ordinary coming from your car but decide to ignore it.  40 miles of driving later you then notice a check engine light flashing.  Again, these warning signs are ignored for "just a few more days", when a critical point is reached before you can take it for maintenance and you find yourself broken down on the side of the road.  And instead of being a routine fix at your mechanic shop, now you need a major repair to undo the damage that was neglected.


Unlike your car, your body is unreplaceable without associated risks.  So why treat these matters any differently with your own body? Our spine is a very important, delicate structure. Statistics have shown that only 1/3 of all spinal surgeries can be deemed successful upon completion. A little preventative care early in life can go a long way in maintaining your musculoskeletal system for years to come. 

 

HOW DOES WELLNESS CARE WORK?

By correcting and treating biomechanical dysfunctions of the spine and extremities we are able to decrease excess wear and tear on joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles.  Looking at the low back pain for example.  If there are lumbar vertebrae that are not moving properly, this directly affect how someone ambulates, lifts items & bears there weight.  Putting excess stress onto the hip joint, resulting in a foot flare to compensate.  Soon after, with enough wear and tear, there is low back, hip and knee pain.    

When we are treating fixated joints and muscle tissue imbalances, we are working with your body to correct the underlying causes to ultimately prevent future injury.  Routine care can limit the overall time spent versus seeing a chiropractor when you are in pain.  Unfortunately, in advanced cases many treatments may be necessary to resolve the predicament; however, periodic visits could mitigate future issues.
